Using the Library Catalogue

The library catalogue is a tool for finding books, book chapters, and other materials at the Brock Library.  You may find books that are physically held on the upper floors of the Library, or e-books.

When you are searching for English Literature topics, you can search by

KEYWORD(S)

  • use AND to join terms
  • use QUOTES for titles

SUBJECT

  • using the author's name (e.g. Austen, Jane)
  • using a literary topic (e.g. Arthurian Romances)

The MLA International Bibliography

The MLA International Bibliography is the key resource for literature research.  It is a complex database to search, but one you will need to be familiar with for upper-year English courses.

Reference Tools

Reference tools are items like encyclopedias and dictionaries that give you the basics of a topic or better understanding of terms.

Literature Online (LION)

Literature Online (LION) is a great tool for English students.  It offers:

  • author biographies
  • full text versions of poems, novels, and plays
  • criticism
  • reference tools

Citing Sources

It is important to correctly cite the sources that you use to write essays and other assignments.
