Course Readings (Leganto) How-to Guide

Create a Reading List from Scratch

You may want to create a brand new reading list for a new course you are teaching. You can do that directly within Leganto! Follow these steps:

Go to "Course Tools' in Brightspace and select 'Course Readings (Leganto)' from the dropdown menu.

Select the option to 'Create a new list from scratch'

First give the reading list a name that includes the Course Code and Course Title.  Second, ensure the correct course is associated with the reading list (if you are in the Brightspace course site, it will automatically be set to that course).

Choose how you would like to organize your readings (by week, module or a general resources list) and how many sections you plan to have (don't worry, these can always be changed or added to later).

Now that you have created the list, you can start adding items to the list. Use the 'Add' button to get started.

  • 'Search the library' will be the best and most reliable way to connect to resources.  This will open up a search field to search across all of Omni, including the option to search for things the library may need to get via interlibrary loan).
  • You can also upload your own files. This is a particular useful option for lecture notes!
  • If you already have a list of citations you want to use for the course, use the 'Import references' option to populate your reading list.  You can either copy & paste the citations or you can upload an .ris file from a citation manager (eg. Zotero) and Leganto's AI Assistant will add each item separately and locate any available through the Library and the remaining will go to the Library for review.
