Research Projects - Suggested Starting Points

American Depositary/Depository Receipts (ADR)

Public Company Bankruptcy (Canada)

Delisted Companies (Canada)

Initial Public Offering (IPO)

  • for Canadian IPOs, look for company filings in SEDAR such as the "Long-form prospectus".
  • for U.S. IPOs, look for company filings in EDGAR such as "Form S-1 Registration Statement" (a preliminary prospectus).
  • Most companies will also post these filings on their corporate websites in an area for Investors.
  • If you need to verify the IPO date for a specific company, you can look in the Mergent Online company research database.
  • Bloomberg has a function called ECDR (equity offering details).

Additional resources on IPOs and Valuation can be found on the Finance research guide.

Share Repurchase (Issuer Bids)

  • Companies announce share repurchase programs via press releases. Consult the Investor Relations section of a specific company's website for such notices. You can also locate them via newswire services available in Library Databases such as Factiva, or Nexis Uni.
