Research Data Management

Recommendations and resources for managing qualitative and quantitative data collected or created in the research process.

Data Storage at Brock

The Brock library supports the deposit of researcher data into appropriate repositories and archives. We can facilitate deposit of data into one or more of the options below or help you identify a discipline-specific archive. Contact Tim Ribaric, for further information and consultation.

Dataverse

Scholars Portal Dataverse
Scholars Portal Dataverse network is a repository for research data collected by individuals and organizations associated with Ontario universities. Scholars Portal is operated by the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL).  The Dataverse platform makes it easy for researchers to deposit data, create appropriate metadata, and keep track of versions. Access to data and supporting documentation can be controlled down to the file level, and researchers can choose to make content available publicly, to the Brock community, only to select individuals, or to keep it completely private. All data is hosted on Canadian servers, in a secure environment that conforms to industry best practices for maintaining data integrity and longevity.  For more information, check out the Scholars Portal Dataverse guide.

Brock researchers may choose to affiliate with the Brock University Dataverse within the Scholars Portal Dataverse.

Brock University Digital Respository

Brock University's Digital Repository houses Brock Master's theses, dissertations, digitized primary sources from Special Collections & Archives, and open access publications by Brock researchers.  The Library has established an Images & Data subcommunity within the Digital Repository which is used to house selected researcher-generated data collections that can be shared openly with the world.

Discipline-Specific Data Archives

There are many discipline-based research data repositories ready to receive researcher data.  Extensive listings of repositories can be found at Re3Data (Registry of Research Data Repositories).

ICPSR offers data curation, planning, and archiving services for social sciences data, including open access and restricted options. Brock is an ICPSR member instutition.

FRDR - Federated Research Data Repository for Canada

FRDR will address a longstanding gap in Canada's research infrastructure by providing a single platform from which research data can be ingested, curated, preserved, discovered, cited and shared.

The platform's federated search tool will provide a focal point to discover and access Canadian research data, while the range of services provided by FRDR will help researchers store and manage their data, preserve their research for future use, and comply with institutional and funding agency data management requirements.

As of Fall 2020, the data search is in limited production phase and data deposit is by request.
