Omni is a new multidisciplinary academic search tool that enhances discovery and delivery of information resources at Brock University Library and at our Omni partner institutions.
Developed through the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), Omni aims to foster collaboration across Ontario academic libraries and facilitate the sharing of collections across the province.
Click on 'New Search' in the banner and enter the title in "quotation marks" (e.g. "The Great Gatsby"). You may also select 'Advanced Search,' enter the title in "quotations," and select 'Title' as the field.
Click on 'Journal Search' in the banner. Search for the title of the journal, click on the journal title to open the Omni record, and then enter your desired keywords in the search bar beneath 'Search inside.'
Click on 'Browse' in the banner, select 'Browse by Author,' and enter the author's name (last name, comma, followed by the first name).
Perform a search and click on the 'Brock Library Print & Physical Items' filter to explore items physically located in the library. Select a specific Brock Library and/or location to further narrow the results.
Perform a search and click on the 'Available online' filter to explore items that are accessible from your computer, tablet, or other device with an internet connection. Select a specific 'Resource Type' like articles or eBooks to view resource available in those formats.
Requests can be sent to all partnering Omni institutions for their copies of texts available directly through the Omni search. If Brock University does not have a copy available, a link stating 'Get it from another library' will appear. This indicates that an Omni partner institution has a loanable copy.
Once signed into your Brock account, you can request the item to be sent to the James A. Gibson holds shelf by using the 'Get It From Another Library' button. For more information, please visit the Borrow From Other Libraries page.
You'll receive an email when the item is ready for pick up, usually the next day for 'Available' items. Pick up requested items at the Ask Us Desk located on the main floor of the James A. Gibson Library, the hours for which are available at this link here.
Should a title not be available through the Omni Search, you can request a copy by clicking on the 'InterLibrary Loan' link in the navigation bar which will open a blank request form. To fill out the form you must have the title, the author/editor, and the ISBN. See Borrow From Other Libraries for more information or contact libhelp@brocku.ca.
There are two other selectable locations within the Brock University network from with Omni: the Burlington Campus, and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts.
Should you want to have an item sent for yourself to another Omni partner school, you can do that as well!
Click on an item, scroll down to the 'Send to' section, and click on the 'Permalink' icon. Either highlight and copy the URL or click on 'Copy the Permalink to Clipboard' to skip the highlighting step. Paste the link into emails, assignments, or citation management tools to access the Omni record in the future.
Yes. Scan and Deliver, the service where scans of articles and single book chapters are emailed to students, staff and faculty members is available. You can place a Scan and Deliver request through Omni by clicking on the 'Request a Scan' button.
NOTE: The only scan requests that will be filled are those which align with Brock University's Fair Dealing Policy.
If you have a specific search (sometimes called a "search string") that you frequently use, you may set up an alert to run the search automatically with the results emailed to you. The auto-search is run once a week and checks for new publications associated with your search topic.
1. Enter a search string and click on 'Save query.'
2. A yellow bar appears confirming the query has been saved. You may also turn on notifications.
3. Manage search query alerts within 'My Favourites' under the Saved Searches section. Turn notifications ON/OFF by clicking on the bell icon. Cancel queries by clicking on the 'unpin' tab.
