Teaching Toolkit

Self-paced, interactive e-learning resource designed to help graduate students in the social sciences succeed at their research assignments and develop a scholarly approach to their field of research. Its production was funded in 2014-2015 by the Ontario Online Initiative, and developed by the S2S team from Western University (Faculty of Education, Western Libraries), the University of Toronto (Ontario Institute of Studies in Education Library), and Queen's University (Queen's Education Library).

A toolbox for teaching academic research. Each page is based on a threshold concept from the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.

It is an open access resource for faculty and librarians. It is intended to be a collaborative space for adapting and experimenting with research assignments and sharing the success or lessons learned so that others may benefit. The database contains multiple, reliable and reproducible research assignments that do not live as isolated entities, but are enhanced by user feedback in order to build a rich corpus of best practices. There is also a Teaching Toolkit featuring a wide range of resource types including pedagogy/theory, assessment, librarian blogs, classroom activities, technology tips, subject guides, citation tools, and information literacy tutorials.

The information in this guide is based on information in a series of presentations and documents associated with an Information Literacy Workshop presented by the ULS Information Literacy and Assessment Working Group.
